XYLISTIN 4.5MIU contains Colistin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to treat certain forms of serious bacterial infections when other antibiotics are not suitable. It is clinically effective in treating various infections caused due to the certain gram-negative bacteria such as Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.A bacterial infection can be defined as a proliferation of various harmful strains of bacteria in the body. They can affect any part(s) of the body including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, eyes, ears, skin, soft tissue, or bones.Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotic. It binds to the susceptible bacteria and disrupts the composition (lipids and protein) of the bacterial cell membrane. As a result, it makes the contents of the bacterial cell to leak out which subsequently leads to bacterial killing. It may also inactivate the toxins produced by the bacteria.Before receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU, inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems. Your doctor would prescribe a low dose of colistin and constantly monitor your kidney functions while receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU to avoid the risk of side effects. You must also inform your doctor if you have any inherited blood or muscle disorders before receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU.Do not take XYLISTIN 4.5MIU if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in it. XYLISTIN 4.5MIU should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if prescribed by the physician. The most common side effects of receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU are stomach upset, tingling sensation in the extremities, loss of sensation, fever, or dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.
